Dick Pope/Polk County FPRA Chapter Offers Free Workshop On How to Prepare Local Image Awards Competition Entries

Monday, January 26

What does it take to prepare a winning entry for the Local Image Awards competition sponsored by the Dick Pope/Polk County Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA)?

All public relations professionals FPRA members and non affiliated -- who plan to enter the 2009 The Sweet Taste of Success themed competition will have an opportunity to gain valuable insights on preparing winning entries by participating in a Local Image Awards workshop set for 8:30 am on Thursday, January 29 in the third floor conference room of the Colonial Bank Building in Bartow.

The workshop, which is free of charge, will be directed by Kristin Guira, a communications specialist with Polk County Government. Guira gained valuable hands on experience on the image awards process by being part of a team that prepared last years grand prize winner in the local competition.

"We invite everyone who plans to submit a Local Image Award nomination to participate in this free workshop. The information gained during the workshop could be the key to a winning entry," said Jennifer Bush, manager of special projects at Publix Super Markets, Inc., who is chairing this years Local Image awards.

The categories for the Local Image Awards competition are Public Relations Programs, Printed Tools of Public Relations, Audio/Visual Tools of Public Relations and Student Projects in Public Relations.

"We invite all Polk County PR practitioners as well as students to attend the workshop to learn how to prepare an entry that could lead to them earning well deserved recognition for their programs, projects and PR materials," Bush said. Other committee members are Kristin Guira, Jan Johnson, Dave Walters and Ginny Wolfe.

According to Bush, PR programs and materials developed after January 1, 2008 are eligible for the competition, with the entry deadline March 2, 2009. Members of the Tampa Bay FPRA chapter will judge the Polk County entries. Members of the Dick Pope/Polk County chapter will reciprocate by judging entries from Tampa Bay.

For more information and to make reservations for the free Local Image Awards workshop on January 29, call Teresa OBrien of the Community Relations Department of Polk County Public Schools at 534-0698.
