February Chapter Meeting

Join us for the February Chapter Meeting for the Dick Pope Polk County Chapter of FPRA at Lakeland Yacht Club on Lake Hollingsworth.

Speaker: Scott Fore, Sweat Monkey

During the spring of 2006, Callahan Fore, a Florida high school sophomore realized that most students lack the basic knowledge of how to get involved with their community. Community service credits are needed by most students seeking certain college scholarships, After earning his Eagle Scout designation at 13 years old, he realized that individuals can, and do, make a difference.

The domain name, SweatMonkey was chosen as a fun combination of an endearing term used by Callahan's father, where all young people are teasingly called "monkeys", and his insistence that anything of value is only achieved by adding an individual's "Sweat Equity".

He quickly organized a student advisory board comprised of 20 fellow students from both the public and private Polk County, Florida school systems. They set about to outline a website that would allow all students, ages 13 and older, a place where they could review organizations, find opportunities, serve a need, and get credited for their service. Local organizations quickly embraced the new technology and began posting their needs.

Currently due to come out of BETA testing during the second quarter of 2010, SweatMonkey invites all organizations to join students on common ground using the latest Web 2.0 technologies and offering them opportunities so that future generations will be guaranteed a positive place in an ever-changing society.
